Clinical Trials
Dedicated to improving care for heart disease, physicians working on cardiovascular research at Turkey Creek Medical Center in Knoxville conducts a variety of clinical trials related to heart disease. Heart disease remains a leading cause of death and disability in the U.S., and clinical trials are crucial to discovering more effective treatments and saving the lives of heart patients. Cardiac research specialists investigate the effectiveness of new medications and devices to treat heart disease.
Cardiovascular Clinical Trials
Tennova participates in global clinical trials to evaluate new pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Led by interventional cardiologist Malcolm Foster, M.D., cardiovascular research at Turkey Creek Medical Center has participated in cardiovascular clinical trials for more than 10 years. We offer patients new and innovative therapies and devices for the treatment of carotid artery stenosis, coronary artery disease, heart failure, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, atrial fibrillation, stroke prevention and peripheral vascular disease.
Tennova participates in a randomized U.S. trial of a catheter-based ventricular partitioning device for the treatment of heart failure. The system is a minimally invasive treatment for patients with heart failure caused by damage to the heart muscle following a heart attack. Through a small catheter inserted in the femoral artery, the implant is deployed in the left ventricle to partition the damaged muscle, excluding the non-functional heart segment from the healthy, functional segment to decrease the overall volume of the left ventricle and restore its geometry and function. This procedure is performed in the catheterization laboratory under conscious sedation.
