Physical Therapy
Whether you are recovering from a broken bone, muscle injury or surgery, regaining mobility, strength, flexibility and endurance are a key part of your recovery. Every individual has different goals and expectations in recovery, so rehabilitation specialists provide a customized plan that
incorporates the unique goals and abilities of each person. Physical therapy services provide:
- Individualized one-on-one care by a licensed therapist
- Education about your condition or injury, the healing process and how to prevent injury during recovery and in the future.
- Various therapies as needed (such as ice, heat, massage or ultrasound) and hands-on assistance with exercises and stretches. Therapists will also provide instructions for strength and flexibility exercises to do at home.
- Motivation, support and assistance throughout your recovery.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy is designed to help patients with temporary or permanent loss of function regain independence and quality of life. Occupational therapists specialize in caring for people with physical, developmental or emotional challenges by helping them improve their ability to
perform daily activities, as well as recommend ways for patients to adapt their environment to enhance independence. Occupational therapy services provide:
- Assessment of cognitive and physical abilities
- Goal setting and planning to help patients overcome individual challenges
- Personalized exercises to improve functional ability, strength, range of motion and endurance
- Activities to improve visual perceptual motor skills and sensory motor processing
- Recommendations for task modifications and use of assistive devices to promote greater independence
- Wheelchair evaluations
- Progress assessments to ensure goals are being met, with adjustments made as necessary to achieve goals
Speech Therapy
Speech therapists (also known as speech-language pathologists) evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with a wide variety of conditions that affect oral motor skills, swallowing, and speech and language abilities. Speech therapy services provides:
- Cognitive retraining, following stroke or other neurological impairment
- Customized exercises designed to strengthen muscles used in speaking or swallowing
- Electrical stimulation therapy to improve swallowing ability by retraining motor nerves in the throat
- LSVT LOUD, to improve communication and quality of life for individuals with Parkinson's disease
- Nutrition or diet modifications
- Recommendations and training for communication devices
